Maho Sentai Magiranger The Movie: Infersia no Hanayome [Regular Edition]Sci-Fi Live ActionNot bad but doesn't really stand out
This movie manages to have some intense scenes and features a story that has a good pace. However, much like the Magiranger vs. Dekaranger movie, some problems were resolved too easily, although in this case it doesn't detract too much from the film. Unfortunately, the opening scene was the best part of the movie, and I was left feeling like the rest of the film didn't live up to expectations.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu Vol.10AnimationVillains' dinos revealed. Yikes.
Episode 27, with its time travel-induced changes and monster bugs, doesn't have much to do with the arc itself but as always its interesting to see something different and it doesn't feel like filler. Episode 28, well, its clear why they took a couple of episodes to get to a full on battle between the heroes and villains since the heroes are hopelessly overpowered, Bronto is very intimidating and the Cryolophosaurus.. well, there's a reason the Cryolophosaurus wasn't shown doing much in last episode's preview, so I will say nothing.

Maho Sentai Magiranger & DekarangerSci-Fi Live ActionOver-ambitous and disappointing
The first half of this movie is a good setup for a story, but then it began to fall apart; indeed, a minor plot point about two heroes going undercover felt more fleshed out than everything that came afterwards. Some of the battles in the second half are shorter than the role call, Meemi and Wolzard aren't even in the traditional big battle and some of the heroes' biggest moments involve fighting foot soldiers! I can only assume Toei decided it was getting too long and decided to wrap things up; even as it is this is one of the longer crossover movies.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 6AnimationIt's different, but...
The samurai arc seemed great at first but as it progressed, it started to decrease in quality. It had some good ideas like Mihasa joining the ninja group and Malm's father being passed off as the shogun while Tokugawa Ieyasu was missing but somehow how it played out seemed kind of underwhelming. It was surprising that the subplot with Sonida's henchmen and the bears ended up having relevence to the main plot. The appearance of deinonychuses and a megalosaurus was surprising although as with the last time, the megalosaurus barely got to do anything. Given the short amount of screentime it had it that episode and the christmas episode it took me some time to figure out that the cover dino isn't a megalosaurus; that one isn't in these episodes at all (I'm assuming the cover dino is gojirasaurus but I'm not certain) The ending was kind of contrived.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 9AnimationThe series has taken off!
Episode 24 had a lot of things going on, in addition to continuing the Musketeers arc it also had information on Usarapa's past and the debut of a stegosaurus called Armatus. It seemed too much for th episode's runtime but they managed to make things work as well as they could. Then there was the haunted castle episode. This featured the climatic battle of the arc and more focus on working together. The combined attack with Ryuta, Rex and Noratty actually did highlight how much things have changed over the season; also given the amount of effort it took to drive off the Zanjark it seems the villains could easily dominate any following battles during the last arc. Episode 26 had a solution to the previous cliffhanger which while anticlimatic I expected it. The episode did seem like it mostly existed to join the Musketeers arc to the final arc, although it did have a few important plot developments such as Nopis's presence becoming clear to the heroes (and apparently to Ryuta's father, oddly). At first I wondered why only Gigas appeared in the opening theme after the Zanjark members, but so far he fought in more battles than any other Zanjark dinosaur whereas Maximus and Armatus have actually appeared in fewer than some of the minor dinosaurs at this point so it kind of makes sense.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 8AnimationSomewhat random, but good
The last episode of the Arabian arc was pretty exciting. Seeing all the main dinosaurs fighting each other and the sauropod was interesting and I think the character storylines were wrapped up reasonably well. However the end of the battle seemed kind of rushed! As for episode 22, there's some information on the Cosmos Stone and the comedy was pretty good but it did surprise me that the heroes didn't get off their ship for quite a while (until the halfway point, I think). Also. what was up with Mihasa's dinosaur summoning animation where she's shown with many dinosaur cards? The only other dinosaur she'll use from this point on is one she doesn't have yet! Episode 23 had a plot about two groups of people learning to work together; aside from that, there's the debut of Gigas, the white tyrannosaurus. I'm impressed with how they made him very powerful, yet not overly dominating.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 7AnimationNow they're getting the right idea
While I did like the idea of the second Kyoryu King season introducing new villains and having Dr. Sonoida and his henchmen join the heroes, the main problem is that the new villains didn't really interact with anyone all that much and Sonoida's team were usually set off to one side; that and the usual recurring cast pretty much vanished. Well thankfully, with this arc not only did they find stuff for the minor characters to do, but Sonoida and his henchmen have an important role for the second arc this season. The new villains' leader had some screentime, which is reassuring since he had very little in the first half of the season. It's also quite interesting how there's a few unusual dinosaurs in these episodes; afrovenator was the only one I'd even heard of before. There was even a new pterosaur. Basically, this arc so far is delivering on almost everything the series could.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 5AnimationNot as good as I had hoped
Episode 61 was... actually, while the story does work, its kind of a stock plot and as such feels like its there to stretch the story arc out to four episodes. The comedic scenes in this one didn't work so well. Anyway, the next episode, I don't really have anything to say about it. I mean it did wrap up the story arc adequately but it was kind of middle-of-the-road. Episode 63 is pretty good; there's a lot of stuff that wasn't shown in the preview from episode 62 so I probably shouldn't spoil it. As it happens there's quite a lot of recurring characters in this arc. There was a scene with Sonoida's henchmen being chased by a bear that seemed kind of random, though amusingly the bear will also be staying with us throughout the arc.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 4AnimationI'm not sure what to say here...
The last episode pirate story arc was pretty good. The next arc however seemed kind of disappointing in separating Doctor Sonoida and his men from Ryuta and the others, resulting in Sonoida's group being reduced to comic relief really. I'm really not too sure what else to say since I don't know how this arc will end yet. It's entertaining to watch, though. Overall so far I have no strong feelings on the second season either way. I don't really like how the new villains don't interact with each other much. Also at one point Gabu almost knocked a Mapusaurus into a volcano and nobody seemed worried.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 3AnimationPirate and dinosaur adventures
Once again, several episodes have been merged into a "movie" of sorts, but this time it's done better. In story terms we have a pirate-based storyline with a Spanish boy named Jim who falls in love with Malm, his father, pirates who are after their treasure map and British soldiers who want to arrest them. Otherwise we have a ship crewed by Doctor Sonoida and his men, a lot of Dinotector usage and the return of the Futabasaurus. And unlike the Ancient Rome storyline the humor doesn't seem to be toned down.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 2AnimationKyoryu King "the movie" concludes
The Ancient Rome storyline was very different and ambitious compared to the usual Kyoryu King episodes but this being the first long storyline in the series it suffers from problems; it feels stretched out and there is something of a lack of comedy. What humor they do have is pretty good though and there's been a few decent parts aside from that. So far the second season's not that good or that bad. I'm hoping it will improve to the level of the previous season though.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D-Kids Adventure Ryokuryu Densetsu 1AnimationInteresting concept!
The first thing to come to mind here is that the new opening theme really seems out of place. Also, this season seems less episodic than the previous season so it's hard to come to a conclusion of some story aspects yet. The tension between the heroes and former villains is good, though the new villain's debut battle seemed kind of anticlimatic. I'm not going to say what happened at the end of the second episode, but suffice to say it wasn't terribly convincing at what it was trying to imply. Although my favorite characters didn't have much screentime and I usually prefer regular episodes to opening episodes but it was reasonably entertaining.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.17AnimationOh no, its the end!
After all this time watching Kyoryu King in a way it seems kind of sad that the series comes to an end. Ah well, at least there's the second season... As for the finale itself, there's some cliches, such as the first pre-emptive battle against the final villain that gets interrupted before anything can happen, and plot contrivance and such, That said, it's actually quite innovative for an anime finale. I'm not going to go into detail on this, since it is pretty surprising in some parts.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.16AnimationChristmas dinos! Woohoo... I guess...
The Christmas episode, episode 45, had a few ideas that were probably better in writing than in the episode itself. It had a lot of comedic scenes, a few of which worked quite well. It also rehased the backstory of Sonoida's grandkids, although it was kind of necessary for the episode. The episode also featured a secret dinosaur, a Megalosaurus, who didn't play much of a role in the episode. Sonoida recieving the card was qutie good for the episode theme but it deserved better than being shoehorned into a couple of minutes of the episode. I think the Megalosaurus could have fitted into the final few episodes quite well. On the other hand episode 46 was quite exciting. In this episode, things start to come together and the villains start to realise what's been going on among their own group. Episode 47 is a backstory-heavy episode. It's really necessary for the whole storyline to make sense.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.15AnimationDinosaurs and chaos
Firstly, episode 42 is very good. I'd prefer if there were more episodes with Nopis continuing his plans outside the base. The actual battle doesn't last very long, but it's kind of forced into the background. Episode 43 has a decent concept which is handled well, involving dinosaurs with the flu.The villains kidnap Malm and her family in hopes of forcing her father to cure their dinos. Episode 44 is supposed to introduce the 36th (and hence last) dinosaur, but as far as that goes I don't think they did particularly well. Throughout much of this episode, said dinosaur is running around stealing shiny objects. A lot of chaos results, but overall this episode is of considerably lower quality than the others.
-
Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.14AnimationIts very interesting. And random.
Episode 39 was a very strange episode on which the battle was going on for most of the episode, but barely any of it was onscreen because of sub-plots and such involving other characters. Also, during the battle the focus didn't seem to be on the battle itself so much as Ryuta dropping his cards, among other things. It was a decent humorous episode for the most part but managed to involve a plot point that leads into the following episodes. It may be the best episode of the series. Needless to say, episode 40 wasn't that good, but it certainly wasn't bad either. This episode involved an Allosaurus. It was also the first time Rex has had a central part in a battle for some time. The only bad part was the villains were relegated to a background role. Episode 41 was set on a movie set, and included such sub-plots as a Pentaceratops mistaking a movie prop ceratopsian for a real one. Also, for once a ceratopsian appeared without forming some kind of bond with Gabu. This episode also connected more solidly with the plot point established in 39.

Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.8AnimationSpino vs. Parapara: The Movie
The title says most of what needs to be said here; all these episodes involved Spino and Parapara heavily in their battles. In fact, so much so that the dinosaur introduced in episode 22 could have been left out of the episode and it work still work; he barely contributed anything. While the "Hey hey ho!"every thirty seconds or so from Sonoida's henchmen quickly got annoying, episode 23 was very good. Actually, all of these episodes were highly enjoyable but didn't feel like they added anything special to the series as a whole.
-
Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.9AnimationA lot of variation here
Episode 24 was highly amusing. I think it was one of the funniest episodes of the series. This one involves a Ceratopsian in Paris that Gabu follows around, causing all manner of chaos. The actual battle was very short and one-sided but that doesn't bring down to quality of the episode. Episode 25 features a Plesiosaur as an assist move card and is the first episode where one doesn't seem to rely on another dinosaur. This episode was very interesting, although strange. Episode 26 was one of the more bizarre episodes and featured a doppleganger group of villains who were part of a mob. I didn't "get" the humour in this one, unfortunately. Looking at it objectively, I should enjoy it more than episode 19, but somehow I don't.
-
Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.10AnimationNot so great this time...
Episode 27 was kind of confusing. It's just weird that Doctor Sonoida suddenly has a lot of extra dinosaurs. The episode had some foreshadowing but I didn't think it was that great, Episode 28 wasn't that great in terms of humor but the battles with the Therizinosaurus were different, at least. Episode 29... well, being only five episodes since the last Ceratopsian appeared, the whole thing with Gabu ad the Torosaurus felt tired. I don't know why Gabu has to have a bond with every other Ceratopsian he meets. On thing I didn't notice until recently, though, is that since episode 22 they've made sure Tyranno is in every episode, even though sometimes he just has a cameo appearence. I really like that. And no, nothing like the sauropod affection depicted on the cover happens. The Seismosaurus and Supersaurus barely make an appearence.
-
Kodai Oja Kyoryu King D Kids Adventure Vol.11AnimationTyranno is returning to form, at least
Episode 30 is a direct continuation of 29, and is considerably better. This one is one of the more lighthearted episodes which says a lot since they're all lighthearted to an extent. Anyway, in this one Narotty ends up in Mexico following the villains' previous defeat and the others go there to retrieve him, but two Saurolophus appear. Episode 31 is about an old temple. The villains find a Pawpawsaurus who proceeds to support Tyranno in his battles. Actually, more recently Tyranno has been losing more easily so its good to see him return to being formidable, especcially since his recent defeats were pulled off via stock footage most of the time. Episode 32 is about Ace and his fear of water... wait, didn't they do this one already? Ah well, this time it's pulled off better than the first attempt. It features a Baryonyx attacking a boat. Meanwhile Rex and Ace run into the villains.
