To bad I don't understand japanese 4

I really like this movie... The only bad thing is that I don't understand japanese (but learning) so I could have used some english subtitels.... But I don't regret buying it.. Tatsuya and Kenichi playing the parts of Light and L is very good acters.. I sat glued to my tv from beginning to end...

Death Note... 5

There's nothing I can say about this apart from, "Simply Amazing." Taking the Manga into a whole different direction yet still keeping the same horrific tale of death. A tragic tale of policical differences... but with a deadly twist. If you're not a fan of Death Note by now, then you should be. Or you haven't seen Yagami Light in action yet!

Great movies Pre-Release Comment

I've already seen both movies during my stay in Japan: The first one on TV as promotion for the second and the second in theaters opening day. The second movie has to be one of my favorite films now, just for the amazing ending. I walked out of the theater smiling like a goon. The movies follow the plot events of the manga closely (even if they switch one character from the manga for a completely different one in the movie), so if you've read Death Note, you won't need subtitles and the climax of the first movie, though never seen in the manga, is easy enough to understand through the images and emotions alone. A totally worthy purchase for any Death Note fan, though I suggest you wait until a subbed version comes out in the states (I'm only being impatient with this movie since I need to study my Japanese).

Lack of subtitles isn't a problem. Pre-Release Comment

Even not being fluent in Japanese, it didn't hinder me from being able to understand what went on in the film. (I never read the manga, either!) 99% of Japanese movies aren't released with English subtitles, even on DVD, so I don't see why Death Note would be any different. Despite that there is a fanbase for the manga overseas, many of those fans don't like the movies because they weren't "true to the manga", so I doubt too many of them would cough up the 6,800 yen for this release (subtitled or not) when they can buy a Taiwanese bootleg for cheaper. If the reviewers below are going to sit around and mope for everything to be subtitled, they'll be waiting forever. Better to either quit complaining or try learning Japanese if it's that important. In any case, back to the release, I'm excited and know I'll be buying one of these sets when I can! After watching the last one while visiting Tokyo, I'm glad they're releasing them on DVD as a set at a decent price. (At least decent as far as Japanese DVD prices go.) And what a nice looking set it is at that~

The story hasn't changed. Pre-Release Comment

Am I the only person that's excited about this release even without English subs? oO; I've seen the first movie and am looking forward to receiving this next month so I can see the second, and of course all the bonus materials! The first movie was entertaining - obviously some things needed to be changed from the manga in order to fit the timeline of a movie, but it kept the feel and all the basics of the comic. If you're a hardcore DN purist then you may be upset by some of the changes, but personally I thought the story itself was preserved quite nicely. And of course, great acting from Nino!

subtitles Pre-Release Comment

What's the point in going to all the trouble to put together a gread DVD package and not include subtitles in a few languages! Surely it doesn't take that much effort, otherwise I'd buy this set in a heartbeat

It's a shame Pre-Release Comment

I sincerely enjoy the Death Note series and would buy this box set in a minute if it had subtitles. I'm learning Japanese, but I definitely don't know enough to watch the movies without subtitles. It's a shame that a series with such a large international audience didn't come with any...I know I've gotten movies from Japan before that had subtitles...oh well...

southeast asia fans want english sub~ Pre-Release Comment

As a really huge fan of the manga, I was terribly happy when i knew that the movie of this wonderful manga would be released, and I've catched both movies in cinema. Although I still prefer manga over the movie, I quite like it and was thinking to buy the dvd set so that my whole family could watch it (they don't read manga). However, without subtitles, it'd be impossible for my family to know what's going on, because none of us understands Japanese. I sincerely hope that the English subtitles (and preferably other languages like Mandarin or Malay) would be released too so that more fans in Southeast Asia would be able to enjoy and buy the DVD. You'll be surprised at how popular Death Note is over here =)

Exactly!!! Pre-Release Comment

I agreed that you will be surprised if you get to know there are lotsa death note fans out here~ You know, my uni mates even chose to discuss outing to watch death note, over listening to our lectures! Limitation of language subtitles really is a disappointment! Then if you finally decided to release one with subtitles, do it fast! As you know, countries like singapore and taiwan etc are real fast on duplicating dvds with our own subtitles! I'm supportive on cdjapan, don't let others snatch your deals!!! =p (P.S: But if s'pore really release b4 you do, I'll definity choose the one faster~opps!)

Without subtitles? = it is a waste Pre-Release Comment

I am agree with the friends and fans of this deadly - excellent manga and anime. The collection set is pretty, but the limitation of the language prevents its benefit. The subtitles are fundamental unless somebody is studying to learn japanese and that I like the language but to learn is too difficult. Producers gentlemen, ONEGAI

bad Pre-Release Comment

If it had english subs, I'd buy it. Looks like they'll lose much money by not having english subs. Actually I havn't much to say about it. Just wanted to show that there's many fans of Death Note whom can't understand japanese.

It'd be great, if it weren't lacking Pre-Release Comment

If this had English subtitles, I'd buy it. Sadly, it doesn't, which is rather disappointing. It'd be a really great set to own, but it's not worth it if you can't understand a lot of Japanese, and wish to understand most of what's going on. If it ever gets released with English subtitles, it'll be on my list.

No english subs? Pre-Release Comment

There's no English subtitles with this? Big shame... I would have probably ordered this if there was English subs, but since there isn't... Hopefully the movie will be released with subs sometime.

Disappointed. Pre-Release Comment

I would have loved this had there been English subtitles. You would be surprised how many Death Note fans there are outside of Japan. Very disappointing.
