Expensive but glorious re-issue 5

This is - no doubt - the best issue of this classic debut. It contains the wide known stereo version of "My Generation" album (released earlier as "deluxe edition") and the first ever high-quality mastering of original mono-version. Mono version in some way is ever more interesting for some listeners, because it's sounding more raw and punky, and mix differences are really notable, especially in vocal track. Package itself is top notch. It's only minor fault I guess: box like this could be a bigger winner, if this contained more serious 60-80 pages booklet than usual 36 pages inley. Maybe it doesn't matter in this case, because you'll get a handful of alternate covers anyway.

Beautiful Packaging 5

This 2-disc set(manufactured on super-Hifi SHM material) has beautiful packaging. The sturdy blue box includes 2 CD's & reproductions of 7 "My Generation" album covers and 20 single & E.P. sleeves. All have been printed with incredible attention to detail such as paper texture and fabrication. If you want to re-create any of these singles, E.P.'s or album variations, you can put your own 3" or 5" CD-R into these sleeves. The first CD features the CD debut of the original UK edition of the "My Generation" album, from the newly discovered original mono master tape, plus related singles A's & B's, and previously unreleased 1960's mono mixes of "Lubie","Motoring","Heatwave(Version one) & "Leaving Here" & a previously unreleased alternate mono mix of "Circles". Disc 2 features most of the recordings from the remixed stereo "My Generation(Deluxe Edition). Sound quality on the stereo disc is the same as on "My Generation(Deluxe Edition). Narrow stereo, but good sound. Sound on the mono disc is clean, but with a slight loss of treble, but an increase in bass. But, in general,a superb collection. Get it while you can.

Who's Better, Who's Best? 5

I love this set! All the 45, EP, and LP covers are delight to look over, and the 24-bit remastering sounds great. I managed to find all the recent 24-bit Who cardboard sleeves last March, while I was visiting Japan, and I was struck by just how good the music sounded. I have the SACD version of this album-and I will always say SACD sounds the most realistic and 3-dimensional of all the digital versions-but this version sounds as good as a cd can. I am looking forward to "A Quick One" in September, along with future releases. Then I think, "Wait a minute. If they can release Who collector sets like this, then there are also The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks, and many other 60s bands that had a multidtude or record covers in their day-this could get expensive!" Still, this album is a great one, and I am enjoying it a lot. Highly recommended.
