I have to agree with the few customers here... it's a shm-cd & it sounds really poor... the original vinyl version of this release no doubt probably sounds better then this does...
Greatest Hits [SHM-CD] [Limited Release] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Customer Reviews
Elton John
So I am an Audiophile with a $150,000 USD stereo system. I've been collecting albums for 30 years. So I know what I'm talking about when I say who ever remastered this recording did a terrible job. The engineer turned up the gain too high in an effort to make the songs sound better. You have to struggle to hear Elton John sing. His voice is lost in the background. As far as I'm concerned this is a recording to avoid! The sound engineer that remastered this recording should have been fired! You would be better off purchasing a normal red box CD.
Due to years of the industry botching up remasters with heavy compression (loudness wars, brickwalling), many people are so used to audio needing to sound loud that they no longer know what sounds good. This CD needs to be cranked up and there is nothing wrong with that! The dynamic range is kept intact and you don’t get listener fatigue. Hope this release is a sign of remasters to come!
Great tracks but let down by the mastering. I don't think they have used the same remasters used for the 'Diamonds' sets. The masters here are very quiet with little bass or tone.Sadly I will sell this one on and order the 'Diamonds' SHM cd 3 cd set.
