"A Killer's Strongest Weapon Is Fear"
Aspiring model Asuka sits across from her used, washed up and intoxicated
coworker Kasumi in the apartment the two share in seedy Kabukicho. In
the hotel room across from the apartment is a corpse Asuka watched someone
artistically murder, and on the other side of her phone wait an overly
eager photographer and a shady police officer.
Beautyfully shot in lush primary colors, "Black Kiss" is
the latest film from experimental film director and son of manga luminary
Osamu Tezuka, Macoto Tezka. "Black Kiss" focuses on the theme
of syncronicity (also an early title of the film) to tell the story
of the warped world of Tokyo's underbelly. Reika Hashimoto stars as
Asuka amongst a supporting cast of all-stars like Masanobu Ando ("Battle
Royale"), Shunsuke Matsuoka ("Stereo Future"), and, in
the roll of Kasumi's ex-boy friend Joker, Joe Odagiri ("Shinobi"
"Maison de Himiko").
The DVD release of "Black Kiss" comes in a regular and limited
edition which both feature English subtitles and a bonus disc with special
features. In addition, the limited edition includes a bonus black Bearbrick-style
action figure and actor's postcard set. "Black Kiss" comes
out July 28, 2006.
