Story
With the patriotic fervor
at full steam, the soldiers of the kingdom head towards the battlefield.
A parade, flowers decorating guns, the roar of applause, and warriors,
and in the wastelands appears a mysterious moving castle and a sorcerer
said to eat the hearts of beautiful women: Howl.
One young girl sets out on foot to get away from this town: our eighteen-year-old hero Sophie. Sophie lives in a town at the edge of the wasteland, managing a hat shop left to her by her deceased father. Her younger sister, Lettie, is beautiful, influential, and the talk of the town . . . to the point where some people believe Sophie to be the younger sister. Sophie may wonder whether she really wants to become a hat maker, but for the most part the overly serious Sophie diligently invests herself in the only job she has open to her. Sometimes, however, when she finds herself alone, she likes to think about what she really wants to do. One day Sophie meets a handsome young man in town. Seemingly being followed, the young boy grabs Sophie and whisks her up into the heavens. The whole scene is like a dream to the puzzled Sophie, and she finds her heart being taken over. However, that evening Sophie winds up angering a witch known as the "Witch of the Waste," and is cursed to live in the body of a 90-year-old woman. Unable to live in her proper home in her current state, Sophie grabs her bags and sets out for the wastelands. It's not long before she finds herself sneaking into Howl's moving castle . . .
