Description

[Machine Translation] Kiyoshi Shigematsu's immortal masterpiece, "Tonbi", has been long-awaited for its first film adaptation! The film, directed by Takahisa Zeze of "Ito" and "64-Rokuyon," is a "family story" about the everlasting bond between parents and children, featuring Hiroshi Abe and Shomi Kitamura as the new "Tonbi and Taka. The main characters include Hiroshi Abe as Yasu, the wild but lovable father; Takumi Kitamura as Akira, Yasu's son; Hiroko Yakushimaru as Taeko, the proprietress of a small restaurant who has looked after Yasu like a younger brother since he was a child; Anne as Yumi, whom Akira decides to marry when he comes of age; Akira as Akira's childhood friend, Teruun, with whom Yasu always fights, but they have deep trust in each other. Akira Yasuda plays Akira's childhood friend Teruun, with whom Akira and Yasu have a deep mutual trust, Yuko Oshima plays Teruun's wife Yukie, who loves Akira as if he were her own child, and Kumiko Aso plays Yasu's wife Misako. --Yasu, the clumsiest man in Japan, is unable to express his joy at the pregnancy of his beloved wife Misako. Yasu, who was separated from his parents when he was a child, longs for "family" more than anything else. The year is 1962, in Bingo City facing the Seto Inland Sea. Yasu works hard at a shipping company for his son, whom he names Akira. However, his happiness is shattered when his wife dies in an accident. Yasu is saddened, but is encouraged by the warm-hearted people of the town, and raises Akira with their warm help. Time passes, and Akira, now in his senior year of high school, is accepted to a university in Tokyo. However, Yasu, feeling the loneliness of the separation, shuns Akira with the words, "Don't come back until you are on your own! Akira was so lonely that Yasu threw him out of the house. Then, in 1988, Akira and Yasu meet again for the first time in many years, but Akira is now an adult.

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.
