[Machine Translation] In the spring of 2020, due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, Miyamoto's national tour "Miyamoto, Dokupo," in which he was to perform his first solo album, was regrettably cancelled. which was to showcase his first solo album, was regrettably cancelled. A state of emergency was declared, and Miyamoto was forced to live in self-restraint, while Koji Miyamoto continued to sing alone in his workshop. He set himself the task of covering one song a day. After the state of emergency was declared, Miyamoto visited his trusted producer, Takeshi Kobayashi, with a dozen or so songs carefully selected from the recordings he had made. In response, Kobayashi completed almost an entire album's worth of arrangements in just a few days, a collaboration that was driven by the pure and earnest will of Miyamoto and Kobayashi to sing. In addition, Miyamoto asked trusted music producer Yoshinori Tsutaya to arrange "Akai Sweet Pea," a song that Miyamoto has declared to be his favorite. Through careful selection and study with these trusted people, the cover album "ROMANCE" took shape. All of the original songs on the album were sung by women,1 including songs that Miyamoto was familiar with as a boy listener, as well as songs she has newly encountered, but all of them are songs that she has always loved. This cover album, in which Koji Miyamoto sings each song with the utmost respect for the original, is a work that maximally demonstrates his power and charm as a singer, and together with the arrangements by the producers and performances by the musicians, can be called the pinnacle of cover albums. This is Miyamoto's first cover album. This is of course Miyamoto's first cover album. Miyamoto's first solo album "Miyamoto, Dokupo. was filled with things that Miyamoto had not done and could not do in his more than 30 years of activity as a band, and in that sense, this album is an extension of that work. This "cover album" is the first challenge for Koji Miyamoto as a singer in a career spanning more than 30 years, and is a milestone in his career.

2020年、春新型コロナウイルスの蔓延に伴い、初のソロアルバムを披露する場であった全国ツアー「宮本、独歩。」が無念の中止。さらに緊急事態宣言が発令され、自粛生活を余儀なくされる中、宮本浩次は独り、自身の作業場で歌い続けていた。エレファントカシマシとしてデビューするよりもさらに前、歌が大好きな少年宮本浩次が親しんでいた楽曲を弾き語る。1日1曲をカバーする、と自身に課した。その作業に没入する中、オリジナルの歌のもつ力、そして歌に登場する主人公たちを愛するあまり、時に号泣しながら宮本は歌っていたという。緊急事態宣言が明け、宮本は録りためた弾き語り音源から精選した10数曲を携えて、信頼するプロデューサー小林武史氏のもとを訪れた。これを受け小林はわずか数日で、ほぼアルバム1枚分のアレンジを完成、歌に向かう宮本と小林の、極めて純粋でひたむきな意志に貫かれたコラボレーションとなった。さらに、宮本が大好きな歌と公言する「赤いスイートピー」を、やはり信頼を寄せる音楽プロデューサー蔦谷好位置氏にアレンジを依頼。こうして信頼する人たちと厳選と研鑽を重ね、カバーアルバム『ROMANCE』は形となっていった。収められた楽曲のオリジナルは、すべて女性が歌った楽曲。1リスナーだった少年時代の宮本が親しんだ楽曲から、今回新たに出会った楽曲までも含むが、いずれも宮本が愛してやまない楽曲が揃った。オリジナルの歌に最大限のリスペクトを払いながら、1曲1曲を歌い込んだこのカバーアルバムは、宮本浩次のもつ歌い手としての力、魅力が、最大限に発揮されたものとなり、プロデューサー陣のアレンジ、ミュージシャンの演奏と相まって、カバーアルバムの最高峰と呼べる作品となっている。宮本にとってはもちろん初のカバーアルバム。今年3月に発売したファースト・ソロアルバム『宮本、独歩。』には、30年を超えるバンドとしての活動では、やらなかったこと、できなかったことが詰まっていたが、その意味では本作もその延長線上にある。宮本浩次という、ひとりの歌い手として挑む、"カバーアルバム" 30年を超えるキャリアにしての初挑戦であり、金字塔である。
