The master version has been re-released on DVD in Japan! Franz, a street performer whose only relative is his alcoholic sister, wins the lottery, joins a bourgeois gay circle, and falls in love with the handsome Eugen. Franz, who has acquired wealth and love in one night, is elated and pays Eugen tribute, but Eugen, a factory owner's sergeant, and Franz, a crude man, are incompatible in their interests, conversation, and everything else. Franz still believes in love, but their differences soon become irreconcilable... This is the first time that Fassbinder has tackled male homosexuality head-on. Fassbinder himself gives an impassioned performance as the protagonist, who falls madly in love with a capitalist and is used and exploited by him. The film exposes the ruthlessness of capitalist society, and at the same time, the sad and painful violent relationship that develops in the name of love is vividly depicted in beautiful digitally remastered images.
