Description

[Machine Translation] Rainer Werner Fassbinder was one of the standard-bearers of the "New German Cinema" along with Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog, and left behind 44 films in his mere 37 years of life, which greatly influenced future generations of filmmakers. The long-awaited first domestic release of the master version! The film is about Effie, the free-spirited daughter of an aristocrat, who is bewitched by Baron Innstetten, who is 20 years her senior, and marries her. The hard-nosed and career-minded Innstetten tries to discipline her, but she is always away from home. Unable to adjust to life in the countryside, Effie has an affair with her husband's out-of-the-box friend, Major Krampus. Several years later, when Innstetten learns of his wife's and friend's betrayal, he challenges Krampus to a duel... A digitally remastered, delicate and beautiful black-and-white film depicting a woman who questioned and worried about society and virtue in the patriarchal society of the late 19th century, while also continuing to feel uncomfortable with her own path. The film is digitally remastered in beautiful black-and-white. For Fassbinder, this is an important literary film along with his later Berlin Alexanderplatz ('80). The heroine is played by Fassbinder's longtime muse, Hanna Sigla, in this adaptation of one of Germany's most famous realist novels of the 19th century. This is one of Fassbinder's most famous films. HD DVD

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)
