Description

Seijiro Kamiyama, the master of "A Drop in the Great River", depicts the lives of high school students under the old high school system. In Japan, there used to be an educational institution called the "old high school" that was born in the Meiji era. Master filmmaker Seijiro Kamiyama has created a robust ensemble drama that alternately depicts the past and the present of the schoolmates who studied there. The leading role of Katsuya Ueda is played by Rentaro Mikuni, who himself served in China. The total number of soldiers in his unit was more than 1,000, but only a few dozen returned from the front and were able to step on the soil of their homeland again. The actor, now one of Japan's leading actors in both name and reality, gives a passionate performance, expressing his deep feelings for his deceased friend. What is the history that Japanese people must look back on now? This much-talked-about film, which asks what we should learn from history, has been long-awaited and is now available on DVD! In addition to Rentaro Mikuni in the lead role, Naoto Ogata plays the famous man from the Zoshikan of the former 7th High School (now Kagoshima University). Ryuzo Hayashi and his son Seisei Hayashi co-star for the first time as father and son. The film also features many veterans of the Japanese film industry, including Kazuo Kitamura, who sadly passed away, as well as Jiro Sakaue, Shigeru Kamiyama, and Sumie Sasaki. Katsuya Ueda (Rentaro Mikuni) studied at the former Seventh High School Zoshikan as a baseball ace in his youth. 60-odd years later, the baseball team at Seventh High is to hold a commemorative game to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding, but Katsuya refuses to attend, despite everyone's efforts to persuade him otherwise. While at the school, Katsumiya should have enjoyed his youth with Shogo Kusano (Naoto Ogata), a wild senior, but his attitude of not visiting Kagoshima or his hometown of Kumamoto is not acceptable to his fellow alumni. What on earth happened to him? The events that took place on the southern front during the war had left a big scar....

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.
