Description

[Machine Translation] The Abbado/Berlin Philharmonic New Year's Eve concert on New Year's Eve 1995 was an all-Mendelssohn program. A Summer Night's Dream" was sung in German and recited in German by McNair and Kirchschlager, and at the same time, a session recording of the English version was made by the same members. The following July, an international version was completed and released, with English narration by renowned Shakespearean actor and director Kenneth Branagh. The Japanese version was translated by Kazuko Matsuoka, a leading translator of Shakespeare's works, and Kanji Ishimaru brought his versatility and expressive power to this fantastic musical drama. The coupling "Italy" Symphony is also a lighthearted masterpiece with plenty of melodic singing.

1995年の大晦日におこなわれたアバド/ベルリン・フィルによるニューイヤー・イヴ・コンサートはオール・メンデルスゾーン・プログラム。マクネアー、キルヒシュラーガーの名唱が光る「夏の夜の夢」ではドイツ語歌唱、ドイツ語での朗読で演奏されましたが、同時に同じメンバーによる英語歌唱版のセッション録音も行われ、翌年7月にシェイクスピア俳優として名高い監督・俳優のケネス・ブラナーが英語での語りを務めインターナショナル版として完成、リリースされた。今回の日本語版は、シェイクスピア翻訳の第一人者・松岡和子による名訳を得た石丸幹二が、多彩な表現力でこの幻想的な音楽劇に取り組んだ。カップリングの「イタリア」交響曲もメロディをたっぷりと歌わせた軽快な名演。
