Description

Ivan IV, known as the "Thundering Czar," fought against the tyranny of foreign enemies and aristocrats in medieval Russia. Sergei Eisenstein, known as the "father of cinematic technique," adapted his turbulent life story to film on an overwhelming scale. This is a historical masterpiece that pursues a thoroughly stylized acting style, incorporating pictorial compositions and Kabuki gestures into the performance. Part I" evokes cinematic excitement with a touch of dynamism, while "Part II" reveals the brutal and solitary character of Ivan, who eventually turns into a tyrant out of suspicion. The second part, "Part II," was banned by the government because it was considered an implicit criticism of Stalin, the ruler of the time. It was not released until 1958, after Eisenstein's death. Remastered in 2014 and released on Blu-ray for the first time in Japan in a 2K restored version! -Mid-16th century Russia. Grand Duke Ivan overthrew the hereditary aristocracy and rose to the throne, establishing a tyrannical monarchy. Having defeated domestic rebellions and foreign enemies, Ivan the Terrible firmly established his position. Despite his vigorous policies, the nobility soon rose up in rebellion against him. In order to overcome this situation, Emperor Ivan decides to quiet down and eliminate those who stand in his way. The latest 2K restored version is used. Commentary booklet included.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
