Description

A naval battle masterpiece co-directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the duo that created numerous masterpieces such as "The Red Shoes" and "The Tales of Hoffman". --The German navy is at the outbreak of World War II, and the Admiral Graf Spee, an armored ship more powerful than a cruiser, faster than a battleship, and with a long cruising range, is maneuvering her "pocket battleship" to sink British cargo ships in the South Atlantic one after another. To cope with the threat of the elusive German ships, the Royal Navy's cruiser force scoured the Atlantic and finally captured the Spee off the coast of Uruguay, South America, on December 12, 1939. The three British cruisers, though outnumbered, put up a valiant fight. Remastered in full HD from the original negative, the Japanese dubbed TV version (Fuji Television's "Golden Western Theater" version) is included for the first time (some parts of the dubbed voice are not included on the DVD, but the original voice and Japanese subtitles are used).
