Description

[Machine Translation] A Japanese cinematic treasure and a painful entertainment by Yuzo Kawashima, the genius who died young! The complete restored version of "Bakumatsu Taiyouden" has been digitally restored and is now available in a special limited Blu-ray edition with new specifications as the "100th Anniversary Edition of Yuzo Kawashima's Birthday"! --The year is 1862, at the end of the Edo period. Saheiji (Frankie Sakai) takes off his straw sandals to a brothel called Sagamiya in Shinagawa-juku on the Tokaido Highway, and begins a boisterous drinking and singing spree with his friends who are worried about the bill. But to his surprise, he does not have a penny in his pocket... Saheiji, who has been staying at Sagamiya for what he calls "detention," uses his quick wits to solve the problems of the girls and the customers one after another. He also makes friends with Shinsaku Takasugi (Yujiro Ishihara) and other members of the expulsionist group who frequent the brothel, and walks lightly through the turbulent world.

HD DVD

HD DVDs titles are playable only on HD DVD players. They are not playalbe on conventional DVD players or Blu-ray players. On the other hand, Twin Format disc has a layer that is playable also on conventional DVD players. Such titles are indicated as "Format: HD DVD Twin Format" in item details page. *We'll add accurate information on regional encoding as they become available, but for the time-being, please assume that HD DVD titles available at CDJapan are encoded for Region-2.

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
