Based on a comic book by Murakami Motoka, this coming-of-age drama by talented director Konuma Masaru is set in Enoshima, Shonan, in the 1960s and presents a fresh depiction of the summer experiences of Nagisa, an impressionable 12-year-old girl, with a backdrop of hit songs from the 60's, including "Koi no Vacance". Madoka Matsuda is a rising star who was selected from among 500 people who auditioned for the lead role in her debut film. Her performance in this film was critically acclaimed both in Japan and abroad, and she won the Best New Actress Award in the 2000 Kinema Junpo Best Ten and the Best Newcomer Award in the 25th Hochi Film Awards! --In the summer of 1960s Shonan, 12-year-old Nagisa lives with her mother who runs a tavern after the death of her father, a fisherman, four years earlier. For Nagisa, that summer vacation was one she will never forget. In order to get a portable record player, Nagisa starts working part-time at her aunt's beach house. Every day, various things happen: she gets a perm under the influence of her cousin Reiko, a delinquent girl; she goes out with Reiko's cool boyfriend, who drives an American car; and Mami, a rich beautiful girl who has come home from Tokyo, is mean to her. One day, while practicing swimming at her favorite rocky beach, she meets a strange boy. Hiroshi, a sickly boy from Tokyo, says he collects flotsam on the beach. Nagisa teaches him how to swim, and they become close friends.

HD DVD

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
