Description

[Machine Translation] A hymn of love and hope that springs up at the end of the Kuroshio Current! A maiden of pure love who gives the breath of love to the children of an isolated island of the underprivileged! Aogashima is the southernmost inhabited island in the Izu Islands. Setsuko is from this island and overcame hardships in school to be hired as a teacher at Hiyoshizaka Elementary School in Tokyo. With her brightness and affection, she becomes well-liked by her students. That summer, Setsuko returned to Aogashima for the first time in several years during her summer vacation, partly due to the marriage of her younger sister, Yoshiko. When she visits the elementary school in her hometown, she learns that a teacher transferred from Tokyo has resigned because he could not endure the harsh island lifestyle and customs. Seeing Yasunari, who was not born on the island, always teaching cheerfully, and seeing the children bound by unchanging old customs, Setsuko decides to become a teacher on the island, overcoming the opposition of her parents. Setsuko interacts with Hiyoshizaka Elementary School through essays written by the island's children. While the environment is rich in nature, it is also harsh. The troubles are alcohol, fights, and god forbid, and even more so, a village without a doctor. However, the children of the island love the island where they were born and raised. The students of Hiyoshizaka learn about various realities. That autumn, the sea becomes rough and the regular boats stop a month earlier than usual. Food and medicine run out, and the school arts festival that the island's children had been looking forward to is canceled. Life on the island becomes even harsher. Setsuko feels frustrated by her own powerlessness. The children of Hiyoshizaka learn of the serious situation on the island and begin to try to save their friends.

黒潮の果てに湧き起こる愛と希望の讃歌! 恵まれぬ孤島の子等に愛の息吹を贈る純愛の乙女! 伊豆諸島の有人島としては最南端にある孤島・青ヶ島。節子はこの島の出身で、苦学を乗り越えて東京の日吉坂小学校の教員に採用された。その明るさと愛情で生徒たちからも慕われるようになっていく。その夏、妹・良子の結婚もあり、節子は夏休みを利用して数年ぶりに青ヶ島へ帰郷。故郷の小学校を訪ねた彼女は、東京から赴任した教員が過酷な島の生活と風俗習慣に耐え切れずに退職したことを知る。島生まれではない安成が常に朗らかに教鞭をとっている姿、変わらない古い因習に縛られる子供たちを目の当たりにして、節子は両親の反対を押しきり、島の教師になることを決意する。島の子供達の作文で、日吉坂小学校と交流を図っていく節子。自然が豊かな反面で過酷な環境。厄介ごとは酒とケンカと神頼みでさらに無医村。しかし、島の子供たちは生まれ育った島をこよなく愛していた。様々な現実を知っていく日吉坂の生徒たち。その秋、海が荒れて定期船が例年より一カ月も早く止まってしまう。食糧や薬も底をつき、島の子供たちが楽しみにしていた学芸会も中止に。さらに過酷さを増していく島の生活。節子は自身の無力さに挫折感を味わう。島の深刻な有様を知った日吉坂の子供たちは、ともだちを救おうと動き出す。

HD DVD

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
