Description

[Machine Translation] [In the past (until the end of the Showa Era), there were mountain people in the Kanto region and westward, who were separated from the rest of society and lived their lives wandering in the mountains and fields. They pitched tents called "seburi" on the riverbanks near farming villages, and their main occupation was making and repairing winoes. Their society was unique and inimitable, with the Ayutachi, or chief, at the top, and the kuzushiri (Kunichi), kuzuko (Kuniko), and mureko (Gunko), or yazos, at the bottom, who controlled the seburi in their respective regions. If anyone broke the hatamura, severe sanctions awaited them. In order to protect their ideal of a proud society.... The story takes place around 1938, when the war clouds were beginning to darken, and centers on a man and his son, who were called "Mureko" (master) of the family, and introduces the customs, lifestyle, and rituals of the mountain people, who never went against the natural order but always lived in harmony with it, through the changing of the four seasons. The film presents the customs, lifestyles and rituals of the mountain people, who never defied nature's providence and always lived in harmony with it, in the midst of the changing seasons. ["東映・ザ・定番 "シリーズ 第21弾] かつて(昭和10年代の末頃まで)関東以西の地方に、一般社会の人々と隔絶して、山野をさすらいながら生活を送る山の民がいた。彼らは農村近くの川原に瀬降(セブ)りという天幕を張り、箕作り、箕直しを主な生業としていた。その社会は彼ら独自のもので、他を寄せつけず、アユタチと呼ばれる大親分(オーヤゾー)を頂点に、クズシリ(国知)、クズコ(国子)、ムレコ(群子)の各親分(ヤゾー)が、各地の瀬降りを取り仕切り、その生活は、独自の掟(ハタムラ)によって厳しく規定されていた。もしそのハタムラを破るものがいれば、厳しい制裁が待ち受けていた。彼らが理想とする、誇り高き社会を守るために・・・。物語は、戦雲の色濃くなり始めた昭和13年頃を背景に、一族で群子(ムレコ)の親分(ヤゾー)と呼ばれる男とその息子を中心にして、自然の摂理には決して逆らわず、常にそれと一体となって暮らしていた山の民たちの、風俗、生活様式、儀式などを、四季の移り変わりの中で紹介しながら、大地に根ざして生きる人間の逞しさ、哀しさを格調高く謳いあげていく。ベルリン映画祭日本代表作品 優秀映画鑑賞会推薦。

There are 6 region codes. Typically, DVD players sold in one region is compatible only with DVD titles that are encoded for that region.

There are a few DVD titles that are playable in all regions. Such titles are indicated as "Region Code: ALL" under "Edition Details" in item pages. If the indication is missing, then it must be assumed that the title is encoded for Region 2. *Please note that opened items are not eligible for returns, unless there is a manufacturer defect. So please make sure that your DVD player can play region 2 DVDs before completing your order (see Returns Policy).

HD DVD

HD DVDs titles are playable only on HD DVD players. They are not playalbe on conventional DVD players or Blu-ray players. On the other hand, Twin Format disc has a layer that is playable also on conventional DVD players. Such titles are indicated as "Format: HD DVD Twin Format" in item details page. *We'll add accurate information on regional encoding as they become available, but for the time-being, please assume that HD DVD titles available at CDJapan are encoded for Region-2.

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

DVD-Audios are playable only on DVD-Audio players and DVD players that are compatible with DVD-Audios (to find out for sure, consult the manual of your DVD player, or look for DVD-Audio logo). DVD-Audios are not playable on regular DVD players or CD players.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
