Description

[Machine Translation] [Based on Hiroshi Komozawa's masterpiece "Shinsengumi Sakashiki," director Juichi Kono depicts on a grand scale the life of Isamu Kondo, the last of the samurai who defied the current of the Meiji Restoration and fell with the Tokugawa family, and the tumultuous and turbulent fate of the Shinsengumi led by Isamu, colored with swords and tears. A period drama masterpiece. --In June of the first year of the Genji Era, on the night of the Gion Festival Yoimiya, the Shinsengumi attack Sanjo Kobashi Ikedaya. Isamu Kondo, the leader of the Shinsengumi, receives a word of thanks from the Shogun, Yoshinobu Tokugawa, for his heroism. It was the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, a time of tumultuous conflict between the Emperor and the shogunate. The Shinsengumi was at the height of its power when the Ikedaya Incident took place, and then came the turning point when Koshitaro Ito joined the Shinsengumi as its new chief of staff, based at Nishi Honganji Temple. Centering on Isamu Kondo, a hot-blooded warrior who gave up his single-minded devotion and became a martyr to the samurai code, the film vividly chronicles the battle history of the warriors who pledged their loyalty to Dandasome, including Toshizo Hijikata, Shinpachi Nagakura, and Soji Okita, who is suffering from chest trouble, along with the friendships and love that supported them. The all-star cast is led by Chiezo Kataoka as Isamu Kondo, Kinnosuke Nakamura as Soji Okita, Chiyonosuke Higashi as Yoshiyoshi Tokugawa, the shogun, and Ryunosuke Tsukigata as Koshitaro Ito. With a superb cast, this blockbuster was completed with the same fiery fighting spirit as the word "sincerity" on the Shinsengumi flag.

HD DVD

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
