Description

Against the backdrop of a small village in the Hokuriku region in the early Meiji era, a family of peasants, oppressed and driven to death by a ruthless landowner, seek revenge by becoming the incarnation of a terrifying snake, a ghost. Master filmmaker Nobuo Nakagawa has taken a page from an ancient Japanese snake legend to depict the horror of a woman's obsession and vengeful spirit in this powerful ghost story film. The opening scene, in which the coffin slowly falls apart, an old woman appears, and countless snakes fall from it, is a masterpiece. Director Nobuo Nakagawa's skillful use of the ghost of Akira Nishimura's peasant farmer is also a true masterpiece. New print component master, picture label specification.

白い魔性か、女の呪いか・・・! 追えど、払えど、とぐろ巻き、絡みつく、蛇、蛇、蛇!! 日本の古き怪奇伝説が生んだ身の毛もよだつ恐怖の宴。明治初期、北陸にある小集落を背景に冷酷な大地主に虐げられ死に追いやられた小作人一家が世にも恐ろしい蛇の化身、亡霊となって復讐する。古き日本の蛇伝説に材を取って、女の執念と怨霊が生む恐怖を名匠中川信夫監督が描いた怪談映画の力作。オープニングで棺桶がゆっくりとバラバラになり、老婆が現われて無数の蛇が落ちてくる場面は圧巻。また西村晃の小作人の幽霊を巧みに使っているのは、さすが中川信夫監督ならでは。 ニュープリント・コンポーネントマスター、ピクチャーレーベル仕様。

There are 6 region codes. Typically, DVD players sold in one region is compatible only with DVD titles that are encoded for that region.

There are a few DVD titles that are playable in all regions. Such titles are indicated as "Region Code: ALL" under "Edition Details" in item pages. If the indication is missing, then it must be assumed that the title is encoded for Region 2. *Please note that opened items are not eligible for returns, unless there is a manufacturer defect. So please make sure that your DVD player can play region 2 DVDs before completing your order (see Returns Policy).

HD DVD

HD DVDs titles are playable only on HD DVD players. They are not playalbe on conventional DVD players or Blu-ray players. On the other hand, Twin Format disc has a layer that is playable also on conventional DVD players. Such titles are indicated as "Format: HD DVD Twin Format" in item details page. *We'll add accurate information on regional encoding as they become available, but for the time-being, please assume that HD DVD titles available at CDJapan are encoded for Region-2.

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
