A group of assassins attack with a bolt of lightning! Short rifles close in and shurikens fly! Zatoichi, the Fukuro Rat! --Zatoichi walks along the Chichibu Highway under the summer sun until he finally arrives at an inn. There, the Matsugoro family of Omiya, who wear two pairs of sandals, are behaving unmannerly. Ichiro hits it off with Junan, a doctor who is skilled but a frequent tavern-goer. At the same time, Shogoro is being half-intimidated by the iron-hot woman, Oaki, who wants him to hide his six friends. The gang of thieves, for which a wanted list had already been circulated from Sekihachishu, were all vicious men, including a ronin named Genpachiro Kogano. The gang hides out on the second floor of Shogoro's weaving house, and one of them, Kumeji, a shuriken wielder, targets Ichi as revenge for his brother. Shogoro asks Gempachiro and his men to slaughter Tokuzaemon, the village headman. When Ichiro confronts the gang, he is shot with a short rifle and is deeply wounded...

[大映75周年記念 大映 THE BEST 名作シリーズ31作品] 勝新太郎が暗闇の世界を生きるアウトロー・座頭市を演じる人気シリーズ全18作を一挙再リリース! 稲妻と共に襲う殺し屋集団! 短銃が迫り、手裏剣が飛ぶ! ふくろ鼠の座頭市! ――座頭市は夏の太陽が照りつける秩父街道を歩いて、やっと宿場にたどり着いた。そこでは二足の草鞋を履く大宮の松五郎一家が傍若無人に振舞っていた。市は、腕は確かだが居酒屋に入り浸りの医師・順庵と意気投合する。その頃、松五郎は鉄火女のお秋から仲間六人を匿ってほしいと、半ば脅されていた。既に関八州から手配書が回っていた兇盗団は浪人の小鹿野弦八郎をはじめ、いずれも凶悪な顔ぶれ揃いだった。一味は松五郎の機織場の二階に潜伏するが、その一人で手裏剣の使い手・粂次は市を弟の仇と狙っていた。松五郎は弦八郎たちに頼んで、庄屋の徳左衛門を惨殺させる。一味と対決した市は短銃で撃たれ、深手を負うが・・・。

HD DVD

HD DVDs titles are playable only on HD DVD players. They are not playalbe on conventional DVD players or Blu-ray players. On the other hand, Twin Format disc has a layer that is playable also on conventional DVD players. Such titles are indicated as "Format: HD DVD Twin Format" in item details page. *We'll add accurate information on regional encoding as they become available, but for the time-being, please assume that HD DVD titles available at CDJapan are encoded for Region-2.

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
