In the OVA series produced in 1991-1992 in four parts, "Mato Hen", "Shinsai Hen", "Ryudo Hen", and "Bosatsu Hen", it is developed meticulously and speedily by a powerful staff including series director Rintaro. It depicts fierce battles involving the demon Yasunori Kato, the onmyoji Yasumasa Hirai who confronts this heresy, Kamo who fights back with the greatest Eastern magic "Kimon Tonko", and the fated shrine maiden Keiko sent by Taira no Masakado, as well as the hidden secrets of the Tatsumiya family that Kato stalks. The staff includes series director Rintaro known for "Galaxy Express 999" and "Genma Taisen", scriptwriter Akinori Endo of "The Five Star Stories" and "Legend of the Galactic Heroes", and character designer Masayuki known for "Neon Genesis Evangelion", and the powerful imagery unique to cel animation that cannot be experienced digitally unfolds. The protagonist Yasunori Kato is voiced by Kyusaku Shimada, who also played Kato in the live-action films and became a topic of conversation for the intense character. The evil heroism he creates is also one of the highlights.
