Description

[Machine Translation] Brahms ( 1833-1897 ) was born in Hamburg to a double bassist father. He showed a talent for the piano from an early age, and from the age of 10 he played the piano in restaurants and taverns to help support his family. Even as a young man, he was skeptical about his own works and discarded many of them. He had the idea for this "German Requiem" when he was 24 years old, but he never completed it and put it away for a long time. This was the trigger that finally led to the completion of the entire work. In 1867, two years before the premiere, only the three movements that had been completed were given a trial performance, but the audience's reaction was terrible, and even the tongue-in-cheek critic Hanslick wrote a sarcastic review. However, Brahms continued to compose, and after repeated trials, the complete work was finally premiered in 1869 by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by Reinecke, and the true value of the piece became known. As you know, the piece is grand and profound, with a German text and advanced counterpoint used here and there. Vito, who specializes in large pieces, plays the entire piece with exquisite baton.

コントラバス奏者を父とし、ハンブルクで生まれたブラームス(1833-1897)。彼は幼い頃からピアノの才能を示し、10歳の頃から家計を助けるためにレストランや居酒屋でピアノを演奏したと言います。そんな彼、若い頃から自身の作品については懐疑的であり、かなりの数を破棄してしまいました。この「ドイツ・レクイエム」も24歳の頃に構想されるも、なかなか完成することはなく、ずっと仕舞われていたのですが、1865年に彼の母が死去。これが引き金となり、ようやく全曲が完成したというものです。初演2年前の1867年、出来上がっていた3つの楽章のみが試演されましたが、聴衆の反応は最悪であり、毒舌批評家ハンスリックも皮肉めいた批評を書きました。しかし、ブラームスは諦めることなく作曲を続け、何度も試演を繰り返し、1869年にようやくライネッケ指揮、ライプツィヒ・ゲヴァントハウス管弦楽団により全曲が初演され、この曲の真価が知られるようになったというものです。曲はご存知の通り、ドイツ語のテキストが用いられ、随所に高度な対位法が使われた壮大かつ深淵なもの。ここでは大曲を得意とするヴィトが絶妙のタクトで、全曲を纏め上げています。

Blu-ray

Blu-ray titles are playable only on Blu-ray players. They are not playable on conventional DVD players or HD DVD players. There are 3 region codes for Blu-rays as listed below, which are different from DVD region codes.
