Ugh... while I tried to like the movie, some parts were sorely lacking. The producers forgot that the target audience are the fans of the show for so many years.

This movie does not hold up to multiple viewings. Some things in the movie felt unfinished (and was concluded in the sequel). Nevertheless, Kitamura san's camera work is amazing and some of the sequences are definitely memorable.

It's definitely a very drastic remake of the classic Zatoichis... worth the watch especially Kitano's blond Zatoichi. Lots of dry humour and interesting action. The last scene is a must watch!
