Shout At The Devil [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]Motley CrueHard Rock ClassicWhat a good album! My friend, Paul, was into this LA hard rock in high school, and after listening to this album, I can see why. It's really good and has that youthful devil-may-care attitude that is a part of all good rock n' roll. And I was pleasantly surprised to find out this release was an HDCD. Great sound, fun songs. I'll be buying more of the Crue's albums from this series.

The Head on The Door [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]THE CURENew EarsThis is a great album. I only know The Cure from some of their hits shown on Much Music, but I was really impressed with this album. The sound is great-such loud bass-and I am looking forward to listening closely to all the other Cure SHM-CDs. It's a great to discover a band for the first time, and I hope the other albums are as good as this one. I love the mini-lp format.

THE SPORT OF KINGS [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]TriumphPop Radio-Friendly but Still GoodThe production on this album is smoother and more pop radio-friendly than on previous albums, but I enjoyed the lp when it came out; and I enjoy it today. At least the band was able to avoid the terrible cliches in their lyrics (for the most part)that make me laugh or cringe when I listen to their older albums. The remastering sounds great (as usual from Archive)and the cardboard mini-lp looks good too. One of my favourite songs, Play with the Fire, is on this album; and the 24-bit remastering brings many of the nuances of sound right out of the speakers.

Ace Of Spades [Cardboard Sleeve] [Limited Release]MotorheadWhy Wasn't I Into This Before?!Great sound, great songs, great metal and punk energy, great mini-LP sleeve. I have always hesitated to buy Motorhead cds in Canada because I don't trust North American companies to put any effort or care into making the sound as good as possible on CD, or into making attractive packaging. The one greatest hits cd I bought has terrible sound, so that's where I stopped my purchases. I am glad that these re-issues of Motorhead's albums have been released, as the sound is great and I am having a lot of head-banging fun discovering songs I've never heard before. Can't wait to complete my collection.

THUNDER SEVEN [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]TriumphGreat Sound from ArchiveThis was the first Triumph album I ever bought and I find it contains many good songs. I liked Archive's Nazareth re-issues, so I ordered their Triumph albums as well. Triumph is, after all, a Canuck band, and you can't even get this quality of CD in Canada. When I compared the sound to that of my original MCA CD, I was amazed at how the sound of the Archive CD leapt out from my speakers. What an amazing difference! I only wish the major labels would take such care with their cd production. Thanks Archive.

High 'n' Dry [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]Def LeppardPre-Rock Star LeppardI really enjoyed hearing this album again. I have the vinyl at my parents' place, and this is a decent alternative to that record. I don't find the new SHM CD to reveal that much more sound than a good re-mastering job, but it still sounds good. I am happy that the engineers let the "No! No! No!..." fade away instead of letting it go on monotonously at the end of that song. Nice to have the cardboard sleeve version; just wish SHM CD had lived up to its promise (24-bit remasters and SACD has me won over already).

Hysteria [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]Def LeppardBetter Than I RememberedMy response to this album in the 80s was a lukewarm one. I prefered the harder edge to the earlier albums and found this one over-produced and way too slick. I still feel that way, but in going back to these tunes, I now realize how well-written they are. Of the 4 albums I ordered (I can't stand 'Adrenalize'), this is the one I have played the most, as I am listening to it with fresh ears. Nice mini-LP version but so far I'm not awed by SHM CD. Give me the K2 24-bit remastering instead any day.

Pyromania [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]Def LeppardNice-Looking Re-issueVery nice mini-lp, though I don't find the SHM-CD sound to be as revelatory as I expected. As I love the depth of SACD sound (which the SHM-CD promotion compares itself to and thereby does itself a disservice), my expectations of richer, almost 3-dimensional sound, were not reached. Still, the sound was slightly brighter than the Canadian cd I bought over 12 years ago. This is a nice cd, overall, and I am happy with my purchase-keep 'em coming!
