Two leading quartets of the modern chamber music scene perform two masterpieces of string octets with refined ensemble. The works, composed in their teenage years by prodigies Mendelssohn and Enescu, showcase youthful brilliance. Quatuor Ebene leads in Mendelssohn, and Belcea Quartet leads in Enescu. Both quartets performed these works in Japan in 2025, captivating audiences with vibrant performances. Quatuor Ebene is acclaimed for its high technical skill and adventurous activity, including jazz collaborations, and recently welcomed Japanese cellist Yuya Okamoto after founding member Raphael Merlin's departure in 2024. Belcea Quartet, led by Corina Belcea, features multinational members with diverse backgrounds and a wide-ranging repertoire. Recorded July 6-11, 2025, at Schloss Elmau, Germany.
