This landmark film is Hayao Miyazaki's second theatrical feature as director (following "Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro"), and the first one based on his original story. Sometime in the future, mankind has nearly destroyed this planet in the "Seven Days of Fire". A princess named Nausicaa from the Valley of Wind tries to stop the warring nations from destroying each other and the only means left to save the world. Extras on this double DVD set includes complete storyboards accompanied by the film's soundtrack. By using the DVD angle button, one can switch back and forth between storyboards and finished film scenes. Other extras include audio commentary, theatrical trailers and teasers. The sleeve cover features Hayao Miyazaki's original watercolor drawing entitled "Torumekia Sen-eki (war)." *About audio tracks: According to Buena Vista Home Entertainment, they have changed this DVD's audio track from "giji stereo (pseudo stereo)" to monoral. They explain on their website (as of September 2003) that they have been developing a stereo track of the said type for this disc, but after repeated testings, they have determined that the original momoral track possesses a better sound quality, and for that reason, they decided to include only the monoral versions. Audio track 2 is audio commentary.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 5

Considered Miyazaki's and japanese animation prime work, this is a must for any Ghibli/Miyazaki fan. Age is not a problem, this and almost every Ghibli movie can fit the taste of people from any age and this is not the exception. Presented with a beautiful drawing and colors, despite being quite old (the movie was first released on theatres in 1984) it's still surprises the viewer. Cannot forget about the soundtrack which features Joe Hisaishi's compositions that fits like a glove in Miyazaki's works. They were surely born to work together, it's simply amazing how one's work complements the other. This nor any other Miyazaki's work would be the same without Hisaishi's music touch and this is no exception either. This movie is a must, not because it's the first but because it's really, really good.

        Nausicaa...... 5

Nausicaa is the first movie with Ghibli Seal. Is a Basic for any Fan of Hayao Miyazaki. The movie is a Masterpiece from Japanese animation.

Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind 5

The movie that led to the creation of Studio Ghibli and brought Hayao Miyazaki to prominence in so many countries. While it shows it's age in terms of animation style and especially sound (which is very "bright"), it remains one of the greatest animated works ever produced. While the story is but a subset of Miyazaki's epic manga of the same title, it is still very compelling. The characters are all great and Nausicaa remains, in my mind, one of the greatest anime heroines ever. Joe Hiashi's soundtrack is an ecclectic blend of Western and Eastern musical styles and instruments, very different from the soundtracks he scored for Ghibli's later movies but no less brilliant. A must for any movie collection, whether you like anime or not.

        Fantastic !!! 5

Absolutely a great movie, you can't forget it. It's so beautifull that you can watch it so often. Watch it ! It's a masterpiece.

        A True Classic 5

This is a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli classic. Obviously somewhat rougher in its animation than more recent productions, but still a heart-warming story, skillfully narrated, in true Miyazaki style.
