Hokuto Mizorogi (Kenjiro Tsuda), the priest of the "Omizu-sama" faith within the Ooku, watched the course of events with a solemn expression. There is an eerie stirring, as if a huge creature were crawling, and triangular scales fall from somewhere, and then a strange incident occurs in which a lady-in-waiting is twisted, crushed, and strangled to death. Where does the Hebigami, this apparition, come from, why has it come to hold anger enough to swallow the Ooku, and why has it now raised its head and begun to move? Its origin goes back 150 years, hidden in the truth of the birth of the Ooku. Long ago, the Ooku was created by Amanotsubone (Yukana), the wet nurse of the third Tenshi. Through that structure a peaceful age continued, and she is now revered as "Omizu-sama," and yet. Sensing an ominous presence, the Medicine Seller goes to the shrine at the center of the altar and learns a shocking truth, never told before, that shakes the whole realm! The bond between the third Midaidokoro (Miyuki Sawashiro) and Amanotsubone, and the secret of the Mizorogi family, and further the background to the successive appearances of mononoke in the Ooku, are all exposed, and every thread connects into one. The Medicine Seller stakes everything to face the mononoke, which is the negative history of the Ooku itself. But facing the Hebigami, which has made years of resentment its own power and possesses unimaginable strength, he is driven into the greatest predicament he has ever known.
