Symphony No.3 (Metaphysica) & Harp Concerto

Joe Hisaishi's new album includes "Symphony No. 3 (Metaphysica)," recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the virtuosic new work "Harp Concerto," written for renowned harpist Emmanuel Ceysson as soloist. "Harp Concerto" is a co-commissioned work by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Opera National de Bordeaux, Philharmonie de Paris, and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and received its world premiere on November 14, 2024 at Walt Disney Concert Hall under Hisaishi's own baton, performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Ceysson, the orchestra's principal harpist. This work leaves a vivid impression with dynamic, powerful solo passages that overturn the image of the harp as graceful and gentle. "Symphony No. 3 (Metaphysica)" was commissioned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the New Japan Philharmonic and was premiered in 2021 under Hisaishi's own baton. Conceived as an exploration of "the motility of sound," this symphony consists of three movements titled "existence," "where are we going?," and "substance." While each movement is based on strictly controlled rhythmic and harmonic structures, they develop into a vivid and richly expressive musical world. These two works vividly show the figure of composer Joe Hisaishi, who continues to pursue challenging creativity even now, and are ambitious works that open up new possibilities for contemporary orchestral music.
