A new album by At The Gates, a Swedish band known as pioneers of melodic death metal, marking their fourth release since reunion and eighth overall, created with the return of original guitarist Anders. This work is the final recording of vocalist Tomas, who passed away in 2025. Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990, the band continued their activities despite lineup changes and released the masterpiece "Slaughter of the Soul" in 1995, which became a bible-like work in the metal scene and influenced many heavy metal bands in the United States and Europe, before announcing their disbandment in July 1996. Afterwards, the Bjorler brothers Jonas (B) and Anders (G) and Adrian (Dr) formed The Haunted, while Tomas (Vo) joined Lock Up and pursued separate paths. In 2008, the lineup from the "Slaughter of the Soul" era reunited for live performances in Japan and other countries, followed by another reunion tour in 2010, leading to the production of their fifth album overall and the long-awaited comeback release "At War with Reality" in 2014, followed by two Japan tours in 2015. In 2018, with Jonas Stalhammar (G) replacing Anders, they released their second reunion album "To Drink from the Night Itself" and performed in Japan again. In 2021, they released their third reunion album and seventh overall "The Nightmare of Being." In 2022, they performed a full reproduction live of "Slaughter of the Soul," originally canceled in 2020, at Download Festival Japan 22. After Anders returned, they completed their fourth reunion album and eighth overall, but Tomas sadly passed away on September 16, 2025. This release features his final vocal performance, with dramatic compositions centered around Anders' melodic guitar solos. Comes with lyrics and Japanese translation.
