The debut album by Nosu, a much-talked-about band that has also won a Taiwanese music award, is finally released as a Japanese domestic CD and, for the first time in the world, on vinyl. It is a groundbreaking work that brings Western genres such as soul, R&B, jazz and hip-hop into Asian indie music. Nosu, active out of Taipei, is basically a five-piece band, but it is also a band that has performed with up to twelve members depending on the show, and it has been drawing attention in Taiwan by appearing at Vagabond Festival, one of Taiwan's largest festivals, and by being chosen for the "Jury Awards of the Year" at the Taiwanese music awards "StreetVoice Awards," among other achievements. This work is an album that mixes the sounds of Western genres such as soul, R&B, jazz and hip-hop into indie music with a melodic sense that feels distinctly Asian. From "flight," which opens the album, the mellow guitar sound and the groove of the soul-flavored vocals intertwine perfectly, and the second track "Back to School" splendidly unfolds an indie soul in which the guitar takes the lead. On the third track "Bakerloo," the band welcomes fellow Taiwanese rapper 53mo and producer Flowstrong as guests, and the song is finished as one that shows the influence of a playful hip-hop built around experimental beats that shift one after another, almost as if breakbeats had been worked in. From songs such as "Waste My Time," in which chorus work intertwines one after another around jazzy and mellow piano and trumpet, and "Moons," whose vocal melody settles softly into the ear, through to the grand jazz tune "Tunes for Suly," which runs over seven minutes, this free-spirited album is without doubt the most musical of the Asian albums released in 2025.
