Shonen Knife's FREE TIME continues where SUPER GROUP left off, establishing the current lineup of Naoko, Etsuko and Ritsuko as one killer rock band. Longtime fans and newbies alike will find much to love on this album. PERFECT FREEDOM starts the disc off with a bang. Other standout rockers are ECONOMIC CRISIS, DO YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW and MONSTER JELLYFISH. I've always enjoyed Naoko's punk and metal songs, so these were my favorites this time. Many songs on FREE TIME will remind longtime fans of the earlier SK sound. CAPYBARA and LOVE SONG, in particular, sound much like "vintage" Knife. The '60s psychedelia-inspired STAR caps off another fine CD from this outstanding band. I can't end this without mentioning that drummer Etsuko really shines on this album; a more energetic rock drummer would be tough to find. I saw Shonen Knife perform recently on their US SUPER GROUP tour and loved them. If you get the chance to see them live, DON'T MISS IT!
