A story modeled after the couple Setsu Koizumi and Yakumo (Lafcadio Hearn). Set in Matsue during the Meiji era, it depicts the ordinary daily life of a couple who loves ghost stories. -- Toki Matsuno, a fallen samurai-class daughter who feels resentment toward this world more than ghosts, is surrounded by people who are worse at living than ghosts themselves. Along her life, she meets a foreigner who, like Tokki, resents the world and has wandered across the globe, unable to find a place to belong, eventually arriving in Japan. Though troubled by him, who is more troublesome than any yokai, Toki gradually opens her heart to him through their shared love of eerie tales, and the resentful world slowly transforms into something irreplaceable and wonderful.
