Before "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," Hayao Miyazaki explored a wide range of ideas through trial and error--Rolf, Nausicaa the Princess of the Ghouls, The Mole and Kushana, Sengoku Majou, and Yara the Wind Handler's Daughter. These early conceptual pieces show traces of inspiration from both classic and contemporary works, and offer glimpses of what would later evolve into Miyazaki's distinctive characters, mecha, and landscapes. This collection of image boards embodies the philosophical roots of Miyazaki's imagination and includes all 188 works, 58 of which are previously unpublished.
