The best of a number of superb releases from the team of horror director Kiyoshi Kurosawa ("Charisma," "Kourei," "Doppelganger") and actor Koji Yakusho, "Kairo" is a chillingly analysis of the depths of human loneliness. Amidst a backdrop of apocalyptic horror, Kurosawa wages a bloodless and subdued attack on the subconscious, leaving the viewer inexplicably disturbed. This film won the FIPRESCI Award at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.
