The film won Golden Palm at 1997 Cannes Film Festival. Koji Yakusho ("Shall We Dance?") plays Yamashita who finds out about his wife's cheating, kills her. After eight years in prison, he gets out and opens a barber shop but talks to no-one except for the eel he brought from prison.
