ピーター・スカルソープはオーストラリアの現代作曲家。彼は7歳から作曲を始め、その作品はオーストラリアの伝統と自然に起因したものが多く、この弦楽四重奏曲も、ディジュリドゥを巧みに配した印象的なもの。ディジュリドゥとは、オーストラリア大陸の先住民アボリジニの金管楽器。木製ではあるが発音原理から木管ではなく金管楽器に分類される楽器だが、とにかく実際の音は印象的なもので、一度聴いたら耳から離れないほどの強烈な音色を持っている。ここでこのディジュリドゥを演奏しているスティーヴン・ケントは英国で生まれ、東アフリカで若き時代を過ごした人。フレンチホルンの名手だが、アボリジニの文化に触れたことでディジェリドゥを学び、この楽器のスペシャリストになった。この楽器のための作品を20曲以上も録音している。Blu-ray Audio付き。 (※CDプレイヤーでは再生できません。映像は収録されておりません。) [演奏] スティーヴン・ケント (ディジュリドゥ)、デル・ソル弦楽四重奏団
