This "World Masterpiece Theater" anime is based on "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta von Trapp (based on her own life). The book was made into a Broadway musical, and Robert Wise's classic film "The Sound of Music" starring Julile Andrews (as Maria) was also based on the same story.
