2020年末をもって約8年間のバンド体制を卒業し、2021年より堀込高樹を中心とする変動的で緩やかな繋がりの音楽集団となったKIRINJI。堀込高樹が初めて映画音楽を担当した、8月27日(金)公開の『鳩の撃退法』(主演: 藤原竜也 配給: 松竹)の主題歌「爆ぜる心臓 feat. Awich」をフィーチャーした3曲入りEP。「爆ぜる心臓」では、ヒップホップ・シーンのカリスマ的ラッパーAwichとのコラボが実現。映画で描かれる現実と虚構が交錯する世界観を反映させた歌詞と、KIRINJIとしては珍しいハードなロック調のサウンドが絶妙に融合したナンバー。カップリングには、4月14日に先行配信され、コロナ禍を描いた歌詞が多くのリスナーの共感を集めた「再会」と、バンドKIRINJI時代にコトリンゴが歌った人気曲「恋の気配」の堀込高樹ヴォーカル・ヴァージョンを収録。
