LOTUS FLOWER [Limited Low-priced Edition]Woody ShawFabulous Woody
Great reissue of what is perhaps Woody's best album. Solid remastering does boost the bass a little from the original Enja releases. But it is very listenable and enjoyable.

In A Silent Way [SACD Hybrid]Miles DavisSounds!
I liked this album in my youth. At that time, I was not addicted to Davis. After so many years, I got a sense of novelty and first admiration. This is a wonderful remastering. I have never heard a better sound, although I have had more than ten different editions of this exceptional album.

Land Of The Midnight Sun [Limited Pressing]Al Di Meolafirst but not least
Very good edition. The powerful debut of the great guitarist! The original vinyl did not differ in the complexity of the cover design... An interesting interpretation of Bach. a polyphonic suite with the participation of young Pastorius. Acoustic guitar play which has become the standard... The publication has excellent sound. Surpasses it only "Master Sound" 1997 release. BUY IT!

The Koln Concert [UHQCD]Keith JarrettDouble one
This album is a tuning fork in jazz history. Like "Kind of Blue" or "My Spanish Heart". Here, Jarrett literally consists in a love act with his instrument. Emotional lyricism rolls over. At the same time, there is no loss of common sense and periodic leaps into the “piano tuning”, which many jazz pianists abuse. It is significant that this album appeared under the auspices of Manfred Eicher on ECM. Must be present in the collection! Especially in this edition!

From This PlacePat MethenyFrom This Place
Less of a review, but more are my observations. “From This Place” is an album comprised of gentle and exquisite portraits. Beautifully measured music flows... The more I listen to "From this Place," I hear themes from 'Secret Story' and 'The Way Up.' Let me know if you don't agree. “Wide and Far” and “Same River” are growing on me. IMHO, “Everything Explained” must be one of Pat’s best compositions since “So May It Secretly Begin.“ Is it just me, or is the drumming throughout Pat’s “Sixty-Six” reminiscent of “Last Train Home”?

The Sweetest Sound [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] [Priced-down Reissue]Romantic Jazz TrioThe more technical album
What reasons would you pick the more technical sounding album The Sweetest Sound (2003), over its more subtle and dark successor, Music of the Night (2005)? A few standout tracks. On the gentle side, you have Bonfa's The Gentle Rain. And Grenat's Drume Negrita has gorgeous, driving bass playing. Yes, I said 'technical'. Ugonna Okegwo and Grady Tate just play that way. Music aside though, according to my bias, what can really draw one's attention is the cover photography by Irina Ionesco, unmatched in monochromatic beauty! The sleeve is thick and the CD comes in an inner sleeve. My four stars are for the mastering. But if you don't compare The Sweetest Sound with its successor, you may not notice the 'sonic ice'.

Music Of The Night [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]Romantic Jazz TrioAcoustic, nocturnal and like caramel
In this nocturnal namesake installation of the series, the listener can reminisce about a classy, midnight lounge atmosphere. Old-school acoustic jazz. Kander's If You Could See Her is playful, and Kander's Tomorrow Belongs to Me captures laid-back romance. The folding cardboard jacket is thick. The CD is housed in a protective sleeve. And I notice the cover model wears a mask. Delightful! Audio fidelity is astounding - airy with a seductive caramel texture!

The Spice Of Life [SHM-CD]Kazumi WatanabeNice album
One of the best albums of this great guitarist. This edition on SHM-CD has better treble than previous presses, more crystalline. Highly recommended for jazz fusion lovers.

It's Prime Time [Blu-spec CD2]Joe FarnsworthJuz Swinging Along!
Not the newest jazz release, not cerebral like say ECM but this disc just moves along. Led by ace drummer Joe Farnsworth a talented group of cats delivery the goods. Happy, inspiring, uplifting jazz. Standard stuff in a way but delivered on time. I can listen to this stuff day or night.

Diggin' On Blue mixed by DJ KRUSH & MUROV.A.love it to bits
this a fabulous, atmospheric, evocative trawl through Blue Note's funkiest archives … love it to bits (the one duff note, that I don't dig, is the Monk Higgins 'Little Green Apples'... otherwise, wonderful)
