Gekko no Kamen (Moonlight Mask)

DVD release of the film "Gekko no Kamen (Moonlight Mask)," which is the second film directed and written by Itsuji Itao. He also plays its leading role. Also appears Tadanobu Asano and Satomi Ishihara. This film was shown at the 35th Montreal World Film Festival. Plot: The story sets during the war torn period of the Showa era. A man returns home from the battlefield. Because of an injury sustained during the war, his face is covered in bandages, and he suffers from total amnesia. Actually, he was a popular rakugoka (comedic story-teller) before the war. To recover his memory, the man only keeps mumbling in a hollow voice his stock in trade story, "Sokotsu Nagaya" . . .
