Sci-fi drama from "Eureka" director Shinji Aoyama and starring Tadanobu Asano and Aoi Miyazaki. Nominated for the 58 Cannes Cinema Grand Prix, "Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani?" tells the story of a semi-apocolyptic near-future where a visually transmitted virus causes people to become depressed and commit suicide. However, they say the only hope for overcoming the virus is through sound. One rich man wants nothing more than to save his only remaining granddaughter, so he attempts to enlist the help of a group of men who have overcome the illness by living in seclusion among the sounds of nature. Initially reluctant, they agree to perform in an open field beneath a blue sky. The grandaughter is led to the field completely blindfolded where she learns to trust other senses besides sight . . .
