このアルバムは2020年の東京オリンピックに向けて、大きく変貌を遂げつつある街、東京に特化した時点で、タイトルや歌詞に東京が出てくる曲のみで構成。聞きながら、東京の雰囲気を体験できるとともに、その時代時代に、東京はどのように歌われてきたのか、歌謡曲と東京の親密な関係性が再確認できるコンピレーションアルバム。選曲はアーカイヴァー・鈴木啓之氏、監修は「歌謡曲リミテッド」が行う。2016年11月30日には第一弾として、コロムビア、ソニー、ポニーキャニオンの3社からリリース。今作はその第2弾となり、ビクター、テイチク、ユニバーサルミュージックからのリリース。
