I hesitated buying this because I had just gotten the SHM-SACD edition of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and the sound quality of that one was terrible. I saw the other reviews for Who's Next and decided I would give it a try. This one is AWESOME! I'm a huge Who fan and I don't think Who's Next has ever sounded better. This is one of the best SACD's I've ever heard. If you are a Who fan, or are just curious about Who's Next, one of the greatest albums of all time -- BUY THIS DISC -- you will not be disappointed.

Apparently transferred flat from the master tapes in the UK without any tweaking, this version is definitive to my ears. Sure, there are some other versions that might bring out a bit more clarity as a result of increased treble or midrange, but this version stomps them in terms of warmth and no matter how hard Moon hits those cymbals, they never sound "tinny" or sizzle. Just an epic release. Not sure why another reviwer mentioned the MFSL release, as that was sourced from the '95 remix and has zero to do with this; the original mix. If somebody said you could have a copy of the master tape of Who's Next for fifty bucks ... what would you say? This is probably as close to that as you'll ever encounter.
The best sounding digital version of this title I've heard. Amazing, lifelike sound. This disc rocks!
The sound is dull and flat and certainly not worth the $50 Just as overblown than the MFSL version a few years back. I was able to break even by selling my copy on Ebay.
I also own the deluxe cd version of this. I had high hopes for the SHM sacd, but was bitterly disapointed. What a letdown. The SHM sounds flat, lifeless and dull, the dynamics are gone. Maybe it is a matter of taste, but I want a remaster to open up the sound and bring life to it. Of course-Who's Next will never be an audiophile sounding cd, but it is a bit strange that this SHM version is so inferior to the cd.
