Ringo really does well here. The in-your-face wall of sound tends to obscure some of the instrumentation and arrangements, but the album completely rocks out anyway -- though not necessarily in the "bang your head and mindlessly rock out" style. There are some nods to jazz and pop here and there, but largely this is a driving rock record, albeit one that is more intelligent than most. Ringo's impassioned singing may take some getting used to at first, but it's a small obstacle to overcome. This is definitely a good place to start with Ringo Shiina if you're unfamiliar with her work.

dont let the cover fool you, this album is all distored and will rock you out. songs arrangement has used a lotta special effects that i never heard of. Song composed by shiina as always will blow ur mind. something about this album aint perfect is it had some bad overdrive tone that really makes ur ears in pain.
Shouso Strip: Smooth and wild trip to inner senses of Shiina Ringos thought's. This could be the line for describing the Album's greatness. Shiina setted a new standard to j-rock/rock with Muzai Moratorium, and she did that too with Shouso Strip. Every song blends in to another smoothly, name it what but not even a single Shiina Ringo fan can't miss this album it's a masterpiece. Shouso Strip shows how music should be done!
Though her music with Tokyo Jihen is getting better and better all the time, Ringo Shiina's older albums as a solo artist are definitely worth checking out. Particularly excellent is this album - an audiological experiment more than a song collection, the album versions of the songs here all blend together into one near-seamless sequence that blends together her best late-90s singles like Gibusu and Honnou with excellent album tracks like Sakana and Yami ni Furu Ame. Definitely something that no fan of this incredibly unique artist should miss.
Shoso Strip is an impressive musical feat by the prodigious musician Shiina Ringo. The nuances in Shiina Ringo's nymph-like voice and her sexy growls are perfect complements to the jazzy rock outings. Apart from its timeless and genre-bending hybrid of Debussy with the electric guitar, the originality of the offerings on Shoso Strip will mesmerise any audiophile who has rhapsodised through music history. It deservedly won the Rock Album of the Year in Japan's prestigious Gold Disc Awards.
