北海道ニセコを舞台に、シングルマザーとその子どもたちの現実を、実話に基づいたエピソードをもとに描いた内山理名主演作。監督はマツモトキヨシの創業家に生まれ、本作が初長編監督となる元衆院議員の松本和巳。――ニセコに住むシングルマザー・空愛実は、愛娘のエミリーと二人暮らし。仕事が決まらず、貯金を切り崩し、惨めな生活を送っていた。そんな愛実の母である実幸もまたシングルマザーだった。母からの暴力もあり、愛実は中学生のとき児童相談所に保護され、3年間母と引き離されて暮らしていた。愛実もまた、時に我を忘れて娘を怒鳴り散らしてしまう。押しつぶされそうな不安を抱えながら生きる愛実。最後の頼みの綱で勇気を振り絞って役所に相談に行った愛実は、職員で同じくシングルマザーの犬塚優子に出会う。時を同じくしてエミリーもまた、人との関わりを拒んで生きてきた孤独なミニカー職人の大西鉄二に出会う。様々な人との出会いが、愛実を少しずつ変えてゆく。そして、あることがキッカケで忘れていた母との思い出が蘇り、愛実は初めて母の想いを知ることになる・・・。
