この物語は、日本復活の扉を開くため、そして愛する人の想いを胸に南極大陸に命がけで挑んだ一人の若き学者と、彼と運命を共にした"同士"樺太犬の愛と絆のドラマである。 TBS開局60周年記念の集大成、撮影・制作期間半年以上にわたる超大作『南極大陸』がBlu-ray BOXで登場! 『MR．BRAIN』以来、木村拓哉と綾瀬はるかが2年ぶり共演! 「inaccessible=接近不可能」な領域に挑む越冬隊メンバーには堺雅人、山本裕典、寺島進、緒形直人、柴田恭兵、香川照之ら実力派役者陣が勢ぞろい! 木村多江、芦田愛菜、仲間由紀恵、佐藤隆太、渡瀬恒彦ら錚々たるキャストも参加! 主題歌は中島みゆきが『南極大陸』のために書き下ろした新曲「荒野より」。昭和30年代。戦後10年を過ぎた頃、日本は失いかけた自信を取り戻すべく、人々はがむしゃらに働き、経済を立て直していた。しかし、世界からは「マネをする国」「敗戦国」とレッテルが貼られていた。その頃、世界各国で地球観測の動きが活発になっていた。アメリカ、ソ連など戦勝国を中心に「国際地球観測年特別委員会」が設置され、未知の大陸「南極」観測が計画される。アジア諸国で唯一参加を表明した日本は、「敗戦国の日本」に何ができるんだと世界から罵倒され、全く期待されていなかった。「今こそ日本人の底力を見せてやろうじゃないか。日本が外国に頼らず、自分の足で立って生きていく姿を世界に示すんだ」それまで外国の背中を見つめてきた日本が、世界と肩を並べる時がきた。しかし、国や企業は資金援助には後ろ向きだった。それを後押ししたのは、日本の未来に大きな夢と希望を抱いた子供たちだった。「僕のお小遣い使って!」 5円玉を握りしめた子供たちからの募金が全国各地から集まったのだ。こうして日本の南極観測は「国際社会復帰の一大プロジェクト」になった。しかし、前人未踏の大陸は南極越冬隊に容赦なく牙をむいた。そんな越冬隊を支え心の拠り所になったのが、19頭の樺太犬だった・・・。全10話収録。生放送ナビ、インタビュー集、メイキング集、クランクアップ集を収録した特典ディスク付き。
