Description
DVD release of the theatrical play "NINAGAWA Macbeth" performed at Tokyo Bunkamura Theatre Cocoon in 2015. The play was shown in 1980 for the first time and also performed at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1985. The play is based on "Macbeth" by Shakespeare and set in Azuchi-Momoyama period in Japan (1568-1600).

2016年5月に80年の生涯を閉じた演出家・蜷川幸雄。"世界のニナガワ"と呼ばれるきっかけとなった作品『NINAGAWA・マクベス』が遂にDVD化! ウィリアム・シェイクスピアの『マクベス』をもとに、その役名や台詞を変えずにその設定のみを日本の安土桃山時代に移し、野望と運命に翻弄される王を描く悲劇。1980年に初演、1985年にスコットランドの"エジンバラ国際フェスティバル"で上演され、"世界のNINAGAWA"と称されるきっかけになった、蜷川幸雄ヨーロッパデビュー作。 いずれ王になるという予言を3人の魔女から告げられたマクベスが、妻とともに主君のダンカン王を暗殺して王位につくも、罪悪感や幻影に苛まれて暴政を行い、やがて予言に惑わされて堕ちていく様を描く。 主人公のマクベスを演じるのは市村正親。マクベスとともに罪を犯すマクベス夫人役を田中裕子が演じる。共演は橋本さとし、柳楽優弥、瑳川哲朗、そして吉田鋼太郎。1980年の初演後、数回にわたって国内外で上演され、1998年以来約17年ぶりの再演となった2015年の東京・Bunkamuraシアターコクーンでの公演を収録。
