2011年3月の東日本大震災から3年・・・。日本を代表する脚本家・山田太一氏が、その未曾有の大災害を背景に、家族の崩壊と再生を描く。中井貴一、樋口可南子、柳葉敏郎ら超豪華キャストが織り成す珠玉のホームドラマが待望のDVD化! ――東北の海沿いの街で生まれ育った西郷良介 (中井貴一)は地元の信用金庫の支店長となり、妻の麻子 (樋口可南子)、母・奈美 (吉行和子)、市役所に勤務するひとり娘・千晶 (黒木メイサ)と共に、海を見下ろす小高い丘にささやかな家を建て、平凡な生活を送っていた。ある休日、良介たちは千晶の恋人・浜口修一 (渡辺大)の自宅に、初めての両家顔合わせに向かった。浜口家は代々漁師で、修一の父・克己 (柳葉敏郎)、母・正代 (岸本加世子)、祖父・吉也 (橋爪功)、祖母・いく (倍賞美津子)、弟の光彦 (神木隆之介)の6人家族・・・。千晶は将来、政界で活躍する夢を抱いており、良介と麻子は娘が漁師の家に嫁ぐことに複雑な想いを抱いていたが、それはまた浜口家の面々も同じだった。だが、2人の結婚への意思は固く、両家はそれぞれ子どもたちの結婚を認めることに。そしてこの宴席で、良介と克己は互いに、中学の同級生だったことに気づく・・・。しかし、それから5日後の2011年3月11日、東日本を襲った地震と津波が、2つの家族の運命を大きく変えてしまう。浜口家は、正代、いく、修一が津波に襲われ他界。自宅も船も失った。一方の西郷家は高台にあったため被害をまぬがれ、全員無事だった。市役所勤めの千晶は、婚約者を失った悲しみを感じる隙もないほど仕事に追われる。良介や麻子は浜口家の力になりたいと考え、うちに泊まってくれと申し出る。だが、西郷家を訪れた克己、吉也、光彦は何を思ったか、その晩、大暴れして・・・。
