Death Cab for Cutie, who have emerged from the US indie scene to become one of the leading artists in the US rock scene, have completed their 8th album "KINTSUGI"! KINTSUGI" is the band's latest album, and their first in 6 years since their Grammy-nominated 2011 album "Cause and Keyes", and is also the eighth album from one of the founding members of Death Cab for Cutie, who announced his departure from the band in 2014. This will also be Death Cab for Cutie's first album without guitarist/keyboardist/producer Chris Walla, one of the founding members of the band, who announced his departure from the band in 2014. Produced in Los Angeles by Rich Costi (Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Interpol, etc.), this latest album is named after a traditional Japanese method of restoring ceramics called kintsugi. Kintsugi" refers to a method of repairing broken or cracked ceramics by joining the cracks with precious metals such as gold, silver, or silver-gray, not to hide the cracks, but to enjoy the joint itself as a design. The title of this latest work is aptly titled to express the philosophy of accepting damage and fraying as a part of the history of the object.

USインディ・シーンから今や全米ロック・シーンを代表するアーティストとなったデス・キャブ・フォー・キューティーが、通算8作目となる最新作『KINTSUGI (邦題: 金継ぎ』を完成させた・・・! この最新作『KINTSUGI』は、グラミー賞にノミネートされた2011年の前作『コーズ・アンド・キーズ』から約6年振りとなる最新作となり、またデス・キャブ・フォー・キューティーにとって、2014年にバンドからの脱退を表明した創立メンバーの一人であり、ギタリスト/キーボーディスト/プロデューサーでもあったクリス・ウォラがいない状態で発表する最初のアルバムとなる。ロサンゼルスにてプロデューサーにリッチ・コスティ (フランツ・フェルディナンドやミューズ、インターポールなどを手掛ける)を迎え制作されたこの最新作のタイトルには、「金継ぎ」という、日本の伝統的な陶磁器の修復方法の名前が付けられている。この「金継ぎ」とは、割れたりかけてしまった陶磁器を金や銀、白銀といった貴金属でその割れ目を継ぎ、その割れ目を隠すのではなく、あえてその継ぎ目自体をデザインとして楽しむ手法を言うのだが、ダメージや擦り切れたものをそのものの歴史の一部として受け入れる、という物の哀れの美学といった哲学を意味するタイトルがこの最新作にはつけられたのだ。
